Spring Cleaning your spa doesn’t have to be a tiresome task if you simplify it by breaking it down into 3 straightforward sections:
INSIDE:
This one’s easy. Your spa shell, jets and pillows shouldn’t need anything more than a wipe down/rinse off after your water is drained. Your filter also needs attention. It plays a vital role in keeping your water foam free and crystal clear. Spa filters eventually will become clogged with particulates – like dirt and organics. A simple rinse with a garden hose or utility sink will help extend the life of your filter and help your jet work better by maximizing flow rates and circulation, thereby maximizing your health and wellness benefits during soaks.
While a quick filter rinse works well, you also may choose to perform a deeper chemical filter clean. See how to degrease your filter in the note below on turning your spa water upside down with Clean Start.
OUTSIDE:
Another super simple area of your hot tub to clean is the exterior. Your spa cabinetry, cover and accessories such as steps are designed to stand up to all sorts of weather – so treat them like washing your car with soap and water and a quick hose rinse. Your cover likely is made from either marine-grade vinyl or plastic so you also may choose to treat them with manufacturer’s suggested protective products.
UPSIDE DOWN:
This is the most important part of your Spring Cleaning, because you need to purge the spa plumbing line of organic build up and potential Biofilm.
And more good news here, is that this process takes less than 30 minutes. You need to drain your old/dirty water anyway, so why not clean the yards and yards of plumbing that you likely overlook?
Just pour in a bottle of Clean Start from SilkBalance and turn your jets on. It will scour your plumbing better than super chlorinating ever could and turn your spa into a “like-new,” fresh from the factory performance state.
As an added bonus – simply toss your filter(s) into the spa water during this process and the minimal yet strong foam from Clean Start also will work to chemically clean them for you – without any elbow grease necessary!
After you refill your spa with fresh water, check that your water levels are in acceptable ranges (pH: – 7.2 to 7.6; Alkalinity: – 80 to 120; Hardness: – 100 to 250; Chlorine: 3 to 5 ppm) with a common test strip. Finally, add SilkBalance or SilkBalance Gems weekly and enjoy the best possible spa experience that softens, balances and protects.
